Drive the original 1968 Forest Trail, with plenty of scenic backroads for your cruising pleasure. Note: the original trail is one, 900+ mile loop, though some roads have been moved or altered since the trail was designated. The maps below, in three parts, replicate as closely as modern roads allow the trip on the original Forest Trail.

Northern Zone includes communities of: Texarkana, Atlanta, Linden, Jefferson, Uncertain/Caddo Lake, Marshall, Longview, Kilgore, Gilmer, Gladewater, Lindale, Mineola, Quitman, Winnsboro, Pittsburg, Mt. Vernon, Mt. Pleasant, Daingerfield, Hughes Springs, and New Boston.

Central Zone includes communities/attractions of: Tyler, New London, Henderson, Carthage, Center, San Augustine, Toledo Bend/Sabine National Forest, Hemphill, Lake Sam Rayburn/Angelina National Forest, Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Caddo Mounds State Historic Site, Mission Tejas State Park (Weches), Palestine, Texas State Railroad, Rusk, and Athens.

Southern Zone includes communities of:  Lufkin, Jasper, Woodville, Big Thicket National Preserve, Beaumont, Port Arthur, Orange, Sabine Pass Battleground State Historic Site, Sour Lake, Old Town Spring, Conroe, Montgomery, Huntsville, Sam Houston National Forest, Livingston, Trinity, Davy Crockett National Forest, and Crockett.
