About the speaker: Roy Mann has worked in 27 states & for 9 federal agencies and consulted on waterfront, urban, & landscape/environmental projects in Argentina, Canada, Jordan, & Mexico; on planning/design for riverfront/coastal parks & nature preserves, urban centers, greenways/trails, ecotourism/heritage tourism & interpretive centers, focal areas (sculpture gardens, theaters, residences).

Notable projects include: Erie Canal Heritage Waterfront: Buffalo, NY; Indianapolis' Indiana Central Canal; Oklahoma City's Bricktown Canal; Austin's Umlauf Sculpture Garden; Virginia Beach's Back Bay; Garland, TX' Spring Creek Forest Preserve; Midland, TX' Playa Wildlife Preserve; Baton Rouge's pedestrian-friendly/music-stage-furnished levee; Covington, KY's floodgate access between downtown & Ohio River parkland; safety/security & dredged material island manuals for USACoE; scenic resource reports for NOAA, FWS, NPS, BLM; Boston's Charles River Basin & Emerald Necklace Rehabilitation Plan: & Santa Fe County's Open Space and Trails Master Plan.

He holds a masters in landscape architecture (Harvard GSD); researched European river cities on a Fulbright (his book on waterfront revitalization & importance of pedestrian access, parks & natural environment on urban riversides, Rivers in the City, was called "one of the most important books of the year"); & has won numerous national & state-level professional awards for his work on landscape planning & landscape architecture. He has received the President's Award of Excellence of the ASLA, a gold medal in the Milwaukee International Design Competition, a Progressive Architecture Award (for the LISS Scenic Shoreline Manual, for NPS), and a number of ASLA Merit Awards & other recognitions.

Mayor Lee Cooke of Austin designated a "Roy Mann Day" in Austin in 1990 for his visionary plans for the new Austin Convention Center at Waller Creek & a Waller Creek Greenway. Mann is a principal and LLC Manager of The Rivers Studio, LLC in Austin.

Who should attend: parks and recreation managers, heritage tourism personnel/enthusiasts, city and county historical association members, museum and preservation professionals, garden and botanical society members, anyone interested--the public is invited

Fee: $25 includes lunch. Due to space considerations, workshop is limited to first 45 registrants.
